"In Paris, Language Sparks Culture War"

The title of this post is the title of an interesting article published in New York Times on March 31, 2007. The article is a great find especially for those interested in France and the French language. It describes how such processes as globalization can dramatically influence a country, a culture, its language and literature.

I think it is funny how France feels they can compel people to speak their language by pulling levers from Paris. Unfortunately for them, the French speaking countries, (Senegal,France,Haiti,Ivory Coast,Tahiti) have poor or small economies which means that no one takes the time to learn them. I think France's position has been eroding since Napoleon stepped foot in Russia and does not look like it is getting any better anytime soon.
